- Keep backup discs of all your important work, pictures, music etc - and do it regularly.
- Use different usernames and passwords for the different sites you use.
- Encrypt data on your computer so that anyone trying to access your files would need a specially generated key. (Not sure how? Give us a call!)
- If you have a wireless network, stay safe from hackers by using a network key and changing all your standard settings.
- If you're throwing out your computer make sure the hard drive is destroyed or completely erased by a professional. Leaving it in a skip means someone can remove any details left on it.
- Vista and Leopard both offer built-in data back up solutions.
- Use separate accounts on a machine rather than sharing with other users.
- Set up minors as standard user accounts - this restricts what they can install or inadvertently delete.
